The 2017-2018 Folsom High School Jazz Choir at the  Next Generation Monterey Jazz Festival!  

Congratulations to the Choir for its 2nd Place WIN, earning an invitation to be a guest artist performer in the renowned Monterey Jazz Festival in September!

A special congratulations to Nino Cayabyab for earning a vocal soloist award!

A special congratulations to Jazz Band I and Jazz Choir I for earning invitations to perform and compete in the 48th Monterey Next Generation Jazz Festival, March 10th-11th, 2018!!

This is a very prestigious festival, with selection by audition only. Only 8 choirs and 13 bands and were selected to compete from the nationwide applicants. Congratulations!!

Curtis Gaesser was nominated as one of 10 finalists for the 2018 GRAMMY MUSIC EDUCATOR Award! 

Selected from over 2,300 nominees from across the country, to say we are beyond proud is an understatement.  Mr. Gaesser has dedicated over 33 years of teaching excellence in music education and has mentored thousands of music students who win at the highest levels year after year -- in 3 Jazz Bands and Jazz Choir, Marching Band, Concert Band, Orchestra, and Jazz Combo groups.  Setting winning aside, and straight from the mouths of current and former students, Mr. Gaesser changes lives.  Thank you to Mr. Gaesser for his continued dedication to the students and to excellence in music education.  Congratulations!!!

Manricks has performed with Ray Charles, Jeff ‘Tain’ Watts, the Village Vanguard Orchestra, Frank Wess, Ravi Coltrane, Don Byron, Conrad Herwig, Robin Eubanks, Frank Lacy, Lew Soloff, Alex Sipiagin, Wycliff Gordon, David Liebman, Micheal Abene, Bob Mintzer, Dick Oatts, James Morrison, Ben Monder, Ari Hoenig, Aaron Goldberg, Gary Versace, Joe Martin, Adam Rogers, Matt Wilson, Sam Yahel, Tyshawn Sorey and many more.

Jacam Manricks Band

Jacam Manricks and his band were the Saturday evening headline artists on the main stage in El Dorado Hills!  Jazz composer/arranger, saxophonist/woodwind player and music educator Dr. Jacam Manricks has been a highly respected figure among the New York City jazz scene for over thirteen years. Manricks has released three highly acclaimed albums as a leader to date (Labyrinth, Trigonometry and Cloud Nine) and performed as a sideman on countless other releases.  His music has been highly commended in major music magazines, websites and newspapers in the United States, Canada, France, Portugal, Italy, Ireland, Germany, Finland, Norway, Sweden, Estonia, Australia, and New Zealand.  Manricks has given over 100 master classes on jazz composition and improvisation at internationally renowned institutions around the world and has presented fourteen international tours performing his original music with leading New York based jazz artists

 

The Ron Cunha Big Band

Our noon concert in Folsom at the Jill Soldberg Performing Arts Center featured the Ron Cunha Big Band.  Some of the finest musicians in Sacramento play under Leader/trombonist Ron Cunha.

The Sacramento State Jazz Singers

Our 3:00 p.m. concert featured the Sac State Jazz Singers on the choir stage in El Dorado Hills.  The vocal jazz program at Sacramento State is under the new direction of Gaw Vang Williams. Sac State Vocal Jazz are the winners of 12 Downbeat Student Music Awards!  The sounds of Sac State Vocal Jazz are influenced by the great vocal jazz groups of the past and present: The Hi-Lo's, Singers Unlimited, Take 6, New York Voices, The Real Group, Manhattan Transfer and others.

Both our band and choir, with 2nd place wins, earned a spot to perform as guest artists at the prestigious Monterey Jazz Festival.   Well done!
